I'm not sure how they make any money, maybe that's why they could not afford to bring out the fully modeled version.

From a users perspective their pricing model is great, I've never paid anything for an upgrade in all this time. For a long time it seemed like TP was going to come out with a fully modeled version, that never happened so it moved on with upgrades that were incremental rather than revolutionary. Although it doesn't have an ADSR envelope like you'd use for production, there are controls for velocity that allow you to modify the sound of each module, and change the "feel" of the release. Now that storage and CPU have become so cheap, the advantage of saving disk space or CPU is probably not even worth thinking about, so it comes down to other factors. At the time using a modeled hybrid approach instead of a sampled approach was new, and the timing was right because storage space was still pretty expensive and available CPU was also an issue. I bought TruePianos about 10 years ago, I think not long after it was released.

After all, how many people regularly play a perfectly tuned acoustic piano? The piano also 'has some miles on it', and is not perfect, with a few notes with slight unison detuning here and there, which I feel adds to the realism. Something about the clarity and realism of the hammer attacks, and the multiple velocity & time matched release samples that is just very real and satisfying to play and listen to for me.

I prefer this sampled Kawai EX Pro over all of them (maybe equal tie with the quite different TrueKeys Italian Fazioli Grand). It's the 2nd piano sampled and released by Lance Herring (the Academic Grand - which is a 1960's era New York Steinway D - was his first I believe) who went onto form VI Labs and their well known TrueKeys Pianos and Ravenscroft 275. Sorry MacMacMac! I was late to the party with the Kawai EX Pro. Where were you five years ago? I paid more then.) I was not impressed by True Pianos, but I really like the Kawai EX Pro. Production Voices have some of their instruments on sale, for example the ones for the free Sforzando player, which is good for you, as you don't own Kontakt 5. They have some interesting products, among them a Yamaha C7, and a Kawai Grand. Not worth the trouble, as I have so many other piano VSTs.Īs for options right now, Acousticsamples have a Christmas sale, 30% off everything. I remember I could fix it, the last time it happened, but don't remember now, how I did it, so I don't bother with it.

My license for the VSTi likes to disappear from my computer. I have an annoying bug with AK Studio Grand. I don't use it now, but I liked playing with it in the beginning. I got it for free, with my Focusrite 2i4, a few years back.

As a matter of fact you just missed one such sale, a Black Friday offer. The Addictive Keys goes on 50% off sale every now and then. Are you absolutely bent on these two you mention? Just asking, as some would argue they're not among the best ones, at least not the most popular ones.
